Position Title: Heat Treat Operator
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Supervises: None
Classification: Hourly, Union, Non-exempt
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the proper operation of heat treating furnaces and related equipment to perform all assigned operations relative to changing the physical properties of metal to obtain the desired qualities
- Sets furnace temperature controls to suit type of materials and process
- Operations involve such procedures as hardening, tempering, normalizing, and annealing a wide range of alloys
- Delivers parts from forge shop to appropriate staging area in plant
- Data collects information required on job
- Quench operation
- Operate cranes and powered industrial trucks as necessary
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent and at least two years of related experience and/or equivalent education & experience
- Previous knowledge of metal work processes acquired through formal academic training and/or experience earned through past employment
- Demonstrated reasoning and critical thinking skills
- Displays a team attitude and have respect for others
- Demonstrated computer skills for data entry
Working Conditions:
This position is full-time. Days and hours of work are determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Occasional flexibility to work an alternate schedule may be necessary for business demands. The position mainly operates in a manufacturing setting with frequent exposure to production equipment and machinery. The setting may be busy and noisy and with exposure to dust, fumes and gases. Personal protective equipment is provided by the Company.
Physical Demands:
While performing the job duties of this job, the employee will spend most of his/her time standing and walking and will be required to regularly see, talk and hear. The employee is required to do the following:
- Stand for 3 hours (not continuously)
- Lift 10-20 lbs (occasionally)
- Lift 21-50 lbs (rarely)
- Carry 10 lbs (occasionally)
- Carry 11-20 lbs (rarely)
- Carry 21-50 lbs (rarely)
- Bend (occasionally)
- Squat (rarely)
- Reach above shoulder level (rarely)
